Both offer great choices of glue, although each has their areas of specialization. If you’ve been searching for good quality adhesive products on the market, you almost undoubtedly will have come across these names. The strength lives up to the Gorilla name and the quick set time and precision makes it easy to work with.Loctite and Gorilla Glue are two brands that have built a strong reputation as a maker of top-quality glues and adhesives. The glue set quickly minimizing the time for me to mess the job up. While the package states “Micro Precise” I found the droplet size a bit too large so I needed to use a toothpick to avoid getting excess glue applied. One feature that was immediately apparent and useful in precise metering of the amount of glue applied are the side grips the squeeze the glue out independently of the body of the bottle. My F-16 model aircraft did not require a lot of strength, but it did require precision application to prevent an overage of glue that would mar the precision appearance of the model. The tip withstood the test and works fine. I followed that with a half dozen breaks of a full rack of balls which requires the most force with the cue. To do the shaping right considerable side force is applied to the cue tip. Thee first test of strength came with shaping and roughing the tip with a stainless-steel tool. I applied the glue liberally to the end of the stick and once set allowed it to dry for about twenty minutes. The pool cue did not require precision application, but it did require strength and the brunt of the blow applied by the cue is absorbed by the tip. I got the Gorilla Glue 5.5 g Super Glue Micro Precise to use for two jobs: reattaching a pool cue tip to the cue, and reattaching miniature weapons to a hand made model aircraft. 5 stars for an excellent thick/tough glue formulation and for the very easy to use dispenser bottle and tip. Do not spritz accelerator anywhere near an uncapped bottle. Be aware that once the bottle is opened, shelf life is about a month. 5 Stars for an excellent glue formulation in a very easy to use dispenser. Hold for ten seconds and Walla! -Instant jig without any fasteners or misalignment screw-ups. Set the wood runner in the T-Slot, dispense a couple of thick Gorilla Super Glue dots on top, and then place the jig on top. I have a clutch of wood scraps that are a perfect fit for my table saw's T-Slots. This particular thick/tougher Gorilla Micro Precise Super Glue is perfect for that. My favorite use of CA glue is for making instant bonds on something I can't drive a fastener into, such as when making a jig for my table saw. I've heard of hobbyist that turn wooden pens sometimes coating the outside of the pen with CA to make a hard, transparent finish. In the woodworking shop CA glue can be mixed with sawdust as an instant wood filler in small applications. Baking Soda is messier and a little slower, but has two advantages-no allergic sensitivity and the baking soda can actually form a little fillet greatly strengthening the bond. The other disadvantage is that with long term exposure some people become sensitized to spray accelerator. The disadvantage of spray accelerator is that it makes the bond brittle and easier to break. Spray accelerator is so fast you can hear an audible Crack! sometimes when you spritz on a little spray accelerator. Bottled ketchup is thixotropic in the same way.įor those of us that even a ten second set time seems like an eternity, there are spray accelerators and powdered baking soda. It has a ten second set time, and is thixotropic enough to "hang" on a vertical surface without running unless jiggled. This formulation is thicker and stronger than the watery formulations I had in design school. This is indispensable for anyone making quick models. The smell of cyanoacrylate (CA) glue reminds me of Art Center, where I carried around a couple of bottles with me at all times in my tool box.
